Today, Carowinds announced Intimidator, their largest investment in the parks 37 year history. The $23 million dollar B&M Hyper Coaster will be the break almost every record in the southeast as the tallest at 232 feet, fastest at 75-80 mph, and longest at 5,316 feet. This is Cedar Fair’s second roller coaster this year to have the “Intimidator” name and be themed to legendary NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt.

The ride features a fairly normal B&M hyper layout, but many of those typical elements have been slightly modified. For example. both the 2nd drop and the “hammerhead” turnaround both feature twisted s-bend drops. B&M has also introduced an element that hasn’t been seen on past B&M Hyper Coasters called a “diving spiral,” similar to a scaled down version of Son of Beast’s first helix.

California’s Great America: Planet Snoopy

Its official, California’s Great America, quietly broke the news on its event page that they will be adding Planet Snoopy in 2010.  Opening in March, I assume opening day, the entire Nickelodean Central and Hanna-Barbera area will be transformed or Snoopyfied into a great new childrens land that features all of your favorite Charlie Brown Characters.

Unfortunately the park didn’t release any details on what the area will feature.  But seeing that this will take up a huge space in the park (I’d say a good 20%) this will be no small task.

I find it very interesting that the park did not put this on the main page as they did with Fire Fall and other previous additions.  Instead they kept it quiet.  Because of the quiet announcement, I believe that California’s Great America has bigger plans, maybe like a GCI Wooden Coaster) that will serve as the main marketing purpose for this year.  Lets hope.

Video of the Week: A Magical Marriage Proposal

This weeks Video of the Week is a very musical experience.   To promote Disneyland’s Summer Nightastic Promotion, Disney went viral and staged this incredible Marriage proposal that showcases the different elements of Summer Nightastic.  While it is a staged event, Disney filmed it put it on the web and didn’t admit was was done intentionally until several months after it was on the internet.  With well over 1 million views, clearly they did a good job.

Magical Starlight Parade

It is no secret that Universal and Disney fight like cats and dogs.  It is very evident in Florida where Universal and Disney are always trying to outdo each other, and the same scenario seems to take place across the Pacific ocean in Japan.  Universal Studios Japan and Tokyo Disneyland have been competing ever since Universal brought a park to...

Cobra in Conny-Land was originally set to open in 2007, but set backs forced a nearly two year delay.  With the coaster nearing completion, will 2009 be the year Cobra Opens?

Built by Pax, this shuttle coaster takes you through two small airtime hills before entering a loop and going up a gentle slope backwards, before heading back doing it all...

When the Media has nothing to do…

AUG

So it just happens to be that the media had nothing to report on the day a coaster got stuck on a lift hill and decided to make it sound so twisted that it would make national news.  Its truly ridiculous on how much the media blew this thing out of proportion.  I never fully realized it and asked me...

The Gardens in Europe

RCTLounge member “Spencer” took a recent visit to Busch Gardens Europe, in Williamsburg, Virginia and was kind enough to send us in his photos.   Busch Gardens Europe is going through an interesting year, with the addition of Sesame Place, the announcement of the removal of Big Bad Wolf, and with the upcoming Christmas Town event this winter.  Lets take a...
