If you cannot tell from the title, the next roller coaster review will be the one and only, SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge! The roller coaster’s name was inspired by the Sponge Bob episode when Patrick and SpongeBob fall to “Rock Bottom.” It was a very nice connection, instead of just using a bland name. Also, it is one of the 2 “Euro-Fighters” in America, the other being Mystery Mine at Dollywood, both “Euros” are amazing!
Here’s the story. You finally find your parking spot anywhere around the mall, and you rush to get it. The theme park is located in the middle of the mall, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. You are walking by stores after stores, but you can hear the echoes of the screaming in the distance, and before you know it, you are standing in front of the giant SpongbeBob roller coaster with its phenomenal entrance sing!
So you are not walking towards the arch. Familiar thoughts come to my mind, with that glove, to that bus, to the red veins in SpongeBob’s eyes, and don’t forget the “Bus Ztation.” You now enter the queue, their are not many switch-backs which is satisfying. The coaster surrounds the queue, and you can always see the people’s faces. Finally, you board the train, in the front. They check your restraints and then leave the station. Vertical lifts are no familiar in the coaster world yet, so experiencing the lift for this was pretty, out of the deep blue sea.
The chain doesn’t make a big clink sound, but it goes up pretty fast. You start reaching the top as it slows over the crest, high then anything in the mall. You are even hired then the bares keeping the windows up, you are in a window roof area. All of the sudden, you drop with a very scary head chopper, and head into the loop!
The unique blue color scheme gives you the blur stream effect when riding. The loop is not that forceful, but definitely an experience. The cart is now reaching a top speeds and you head over the smallest airtime hill going into a over-bank turn. It turns some rides upside down, coming within a couple feet from the ferris wheel. Another inversion awaits you, the zero-g-roll. Not many roller coasters have these inversions, besides B&M’s, so it is nice to see a new company using it. Quickly making a sharp turn into the mid-course brake run, you start having all the fun in the world. Turn towards your bottom right into another over-bank turn, twisting turning, final helix, and then reaching the final brakes. Overall, it is a very smooth, one of a kid, roller coaster.
To finish up the report, I want to talk about the amazing support structure of SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge! The roller coaster is so compact, and big for the area it takes up. Literally, it takes up as much room are possible, barely reaching the ferric wheel and its right up against the Ghost Blasters ride. But this picture has to be a pretty neat one, along with the lift hill’s supports. They couldn’t be regularly built, and some wacky ones are pretty much taken pictured of by other tourists. So if need to come ride the roller coasters, and after getting off, ride again, and again, then check out the supports.
