After making his return to Disneyland in California, Michael Jackson will once again return to his former homes in Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris as Captain EO. The 3D musical adventure ran in each of the park’s for years before being replaced by Honey, I Shrunk the Audience (or MicroAdventure! in Tokyo Disneyland). With Michael Jackson’s popularity at an all time high, the two international resorts will be taking advantage by bringing back these two classic attractions.
In Tokyo Disneyland the date has been set for a July 1st opening and then a June 30, 2011 closing date. MicroAdventure will close May 10th. At Disneyland Paris, Honey, I Shrunk the Audience closes on May 3rd, and Captain EO reopens in June.
Yesterday was the official opening of Universal Studios Sinagpore. The park welcomed a large crowd as they lined the walk ways excited to experience all the park has to offer. Finally, after years of planning and construction, the park can finally let in it’s first guests.
The opening ceremony featured 18 dancing lions, Betty Boop, Frankenstein, and plenty of guests. Guests were allowed in starting around 8:30 and played in the park all day until the night’s grand finale with fireworks on Lake Hollywood.
Overall, the park features a unique collection of different Universal rides re-imagined. For example, this park featured an entirely different version of Revenge of the Mummy and Jurrasic Park. The Singapore park also has several unique attractions such as a Madgascar, and Shrek area, as well as a Battle Star Galatica coaster.
As for the park, I hope it succeeds and I am confident it will succeed. The park is incredibly designed and features a wide variety of rides that will appeal to children and thrill seekers alike. Good luck Universal Studios Singapore.
Tokyo DisneySea announced that they will be adding Jasmine’s Flying Carpets in 2011. The ride will be part of the park’s 10th anniversary in 2011 and will go in the Arabian Coast section of the park, in front of the Magic Lamp theater. Guests will be able to raise and lower their own individual carpet and also be able to tilt the carpets as well. From the details, it appears the ride will be very similar to Aladdin’s Flying Carpets (Magic Kingdom) and Flying Carpets Over Argabah (Walt Disney Studios Paris). Jasmine’s Flying Carpets will take the place of the current fountain and will is set to open in Summer of 2011.
Personally, this is actually nerve racking news to many Tokyo DisneySea fans. I found out about this new attraction through a forum thread that was titled “Stupid New Ride” and that is how I feel as well. The Oriental Land Company (owners of Tokyo Disney Resort) have always provided the highest quality with Tokyo DisneySea and unfortunately that quality seems to be in a slight decline recently.
The announcement of modern day toys entering a 1920′s New York area is a bit disconcerning. Turtle Talk was not exactly well-recieved by some fans and now it appears that just a new Dumbo is coming to the park. While, yes all of these rides are/will be exceptionally done it is concerning that the OLC feels that these kind of attractions suddenly belong in the park.
And for many Disney fans such as myself, this new ride means the departure of the most high energy show ever, Bonfire Dance. Only time will tell if this new ride is a hiccup in the park’s history or a sign of things to come.
