California’s Great America continues to transform Nickelodeon Centeral into the new for 2010, Camp Snoopy area.  The park’s Facebook page has a batch of new photos that show off the construction under way to turn a modern Nick themed area into a nostalgic Planet Snoopy.  With painting, resurfacing, and much more construction happening during the off season, the park is in a rush to finish Planet Snoopy in time for opening day.

The Planet Snoopy transformation is quite a large job to accomplish.  Nearly all the children’s attractions in the parks need to be renamed, rethemed, reimagined for the transformation to be successful.  Some of these transformations include Spongebob’s Boat Mobiles to Peanut’s Pirates,  Wild Thornberry’s Tree Top Lookout to The Great Pumpkin Patch, Rugrat’s Reptar Runaway to Woodstock Express and Nickelodeon Theater to Peanut’s Playhouse.

Be sure to come back in just a few weeks for opening day coverage of the park full of pictures of Planet Snoopy.  Leave a  comment with your Park Thoughts below.

Universal Resort Orlando is gearing up for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter land to finally open in just a few months at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.  Construction is wrapping up on everything from the elaborate town of Hogsmeade, to the mighty castle of Hogwarts.  The park has closed Dueling Dragons so it can now be transformed into Dragon Challenge.

As construction comes to a close, Universal has gone into marketing mode to the extreme.  They have launched a massive amount of commercials and TV Spots.  I live on the West Coast and see an advertisement for the new area at least once a day.  And now, the new resort guide has been posted online.  It clearly shows that Harry Potter is being infused into the park’s collection of characters such as Spiderman, the Hulk, and Shrek.  Along with Harry Potter, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is also prominent in the guide with the notorious ride

Also included in the new park guide is the 2010 version of the Park Map for both parks.  The real interesting map is Islands of Adventure’s.  This new map illustrates only a logo for Harry Potter’s new area but it also gives an idea of the down sized Lost Continent area.  It can now be confirmed that Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, the area’s signature attraction, will have a height limit of 48′ inches, perfect for enough thrills but still so younger riders can enjoy it.

It seems like just yesterday, it was big news that Islands of Adventures will be turning on of their most lavish areas into a new land based on the hit books and movies of Harry Potter.  Now we are just months away from the first lucky visitors to enter the area.  I am truly excited to see what kind of ride system Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey will bring us and can’t wait to see the interiors of the unique shops and restaurants.  Unfortunately, I will not have the privilidge of attending the new land until Spring 2011 but I am still excited!  Are you?  Leave a comment with your Park Thoughts below.

2011 will be Six Flags 50th Anniversary, and the original park, Six Flags Over Texas, is getting some huge birthday gifts.  Six Flags has said they were going to close Texas Giant, one of the biggest wooden coasters in the world, for the entire 2010 season while it gets a refurbishment in time for the 2011 celebration.  While Six Flags has been pretty quiet about the details, the park has finally revealed some details on the ride’s update.

Image from Amusement Today

Officials today showed off Texas Giant’s new red, steel track.  Texas Giant will be receiving all steel track over it’s wooden supports.  The system the ride will be using is the first of it’s kind and will be manufactured by the Rocky Mountain Construction Group.  The pictures above show the Chinchillan Red track, that is custom fabricated to fit this ride, as well as the steel braces being put into place.

This new style of coaster is being named an “Iron Horse Coaster“.  Rocky Mountain Construction claims several improvements with this new system such as less daily maintenance, less construction cost, and “a revolution in track technology”.    Six Flags seems very proud of this new creation saying “Six Flags has a reputation for developing ride concepts and Texas Giant will be the crowning jewel.”

Needless to say, that this is a very unexpected announcement.  It sounds like this refurbishment will certainly not be a typical off season refurbishment, but instead bringing the ride into the new generation with the custom fabricated track. My thoughts on the Iron Horse Coaster style is still up in the air as the details are a bit confusing.  This 2010 season will certainly be an interesting one as we see a Wooden coaster transform into a steel coaster marvel.  What are your thoughts?  Leave a comment with your Park Thoughts below.
