The final Daily Dark Ride, the grand daddy of them all is Disneyland’s very own Haunted Mansion. This dark ride has created its own society, its own movie and forever changed Dark Ride history. The Haunted Mansion recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary and is still a star in it’s own right. It is what many consider, including myself to be one of the best dark rides that has and will ever be built.
As guests enter the ominous mansion, they gather into a 6 sided room. On the walls lie portraits of 6 different people. But suddenly, the potraits and the walls begin to stretch, is the roof getting higher, is the floor getting lower? What is happening? The mystery of the story begins to unravel as the Mansion reveals more and more of itself.
When Walt Disney and his team began to work on the Haunted Mansion many ideas came up but they finally settled on a design. The building itself was constructed in 1963 but due to the World’s Fair and other project WDI was busy with, they did not finish the ride until 1969. In that time span, dozens upon dozens of rumors came up that someone’s brother’s aunt’s second cousin’ had a heart attack on the ride or even someone fell into a snake pit. All of these are false…or are they?
Haunted Mansion is a classic because of its iconic music, its unique ability of making you feel scared, watch in amazement, and laugh makes the ride so popular around the world. If you have ridden this final daily dark ride, be sure to tell us your experience with a comment and park thought below.
The Tales of 1,001 Arabian Nights have been beautifully crafted into an amazing dark ride at Efteling in the Netherlands. The slow moving boat journey takes you different settings from the tales from the classic. Masterful theming, and plenty of audio-animatronics make this ride very similar to Pirates of the Caribbean.
When it opened its doors in 1986, it stunned guests with its exciting storyline. Each 16 passenger boat passes by more then 140 animatronics in different scenes. In the begging, boats are lurking in an ominous jungle and meet a wizard who sends them deep into the past to experience the Arabian Nights themselves.
One thing that consistently brings guests back is the music. The music was designed specifically for this ride and has been classic ever since. The music is so popular that the park makes thousands each year from the CD’s they sell. It is very clear that Efteling devotes a lot of time and money into their attractions. Ever wanted to take a journey to the far depths of the oceans below, to discover unknown creatures never before seen by man. Visitors at Tokyo DisneySea have that chance on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Located right next to Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues is very different from any other dark ride and is very popular among guests.
The voyage begins by entering a small submarine vessel. For all those familiar with the Natalius from the book, it is not the submarine you are located in. While that submarine is a piece of theming in the outdoor queue, the submarine you enter is a small 6 person craft. From here the captain sends the submarines diving down to the depths below. Submarine voyages often encounter a ship graveyard, undiscovered ecosystems, and plenty more to appease every adventurer’s craving.
What is distinct about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is that it never actually goes below water. Instead the portholes guests look out are equipped with 2 planes, and between the two planes is a section of water. As the ride goes on, the wtaer is pumped with air to form bubbles to give a spectacular illusion that you are under water. This has never before been done on any other ride in the world, and this is understandable seeing that the ride is so hard to perfect.
The classic movie has been beautifully translated into a living reality at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, Florida. Join ET and his friends as ...
