Planet Snoopy has been announced as the replacement for all of the Nickelodeon Central and Hannah Barbara’s Kidzville areas in the former Paramount Parks. These new Snoopy-fied areas are all currently in the construction phase and each ne is set to open in time for the 2010 opening day.
Cedar Fair recently launched a new Planet Snoopy website for each of their four new locations in California’s Great America, King’s Island, King’s Dominion and Carowinds. Each website comes with a video, a link to the parks home page, operating schedule, and a park map. Below is one of the park maps from California’s Great America.

The park maps are not the updated versions sadly but they do indicate the park entrance (what every theme park enthusiast needs to know) as well as the location of the up and coming area. Check out the website here. Be sure to leave your Park Thoughts on Planet Snoopy below.

The last week has seen very significant milestones for both Intimidator at Carowinds and Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion and the rides are getting closer and closer to opening.
First off, the first of 3 trains arrived at Carowinds yesterday and has been placed in the storage sheds. It’s pretty hard to see due to the fact that the trains are still wrapped in the photos that the park has posted, but the front of the first car certainly look just like one of Dale Earnhardt’s stock cars, and they should look even better once the decals are added. As for testing, Public Relations manager Dani Swords has said that it should start around the beginning of February. There have also been mentions of more announcements coming from the park, so it should be a very exciting month for fans of Carowinds.
Intimidator 305 clearly had the largest of the two achievements the last week, its final piece of steel was hoisted into place on Saturday. Certainly a comeback for the construction crews, after being so seemingly behind schedule with the lift hill, it seemed doubtful that the ride would open with the park, but they really picked up the pace on the last portions of the ride over the last month. Trains for the ride are expected to arrive in the next few weeks, it should be interesting to see the restraint system.

It seems that most people think the possible Cedar Fair buyout will help the company. However, more think that it won’t help the company that much. When the news came out about Apollo Management offering to buy the company, it seemed like a done deal. But it was far from one. Cedar Fair’s shareholders are now blocking the buyout, saying that the proposed $2.4 billion is not enough. The shareholders would get $11.50 for each share, which is more than the $6 it was in March of 2009. It seems like the shareholders should be more than excited that another company sees value in Cedar Fair. We’ll see whether this will fly, or stay grounded.

From the Kings Dominion parking lot, Dominator is clearly visible. This coaster has the world’s largest vertical loop (not to be confused with tallest, largest is in terms of diameter), and is the longest floorless coaster in the world. It was previously the tallest ...
