Today, Valleyfair announced they will be adding Planet Snoopy to the park for 2011.  The family friendly area will feature plenty of rides for children of all ages to enjoy.  With a planned 14 rides and attractions, the $9 million dollar investment is expected to be the highlight of the 2011 season.  Planet Snoopy will not just add new rides, but the park is also going clean up the area, by adding new pavers to the Planet Snoopy midway, a Family Care Center, and other enhancements.

Construction on the new attraction will begin immediately following the park’s regular season on September 18th.  However, the park assures that it will in no way impact the experience of Halloween Haunt.  Also, for guests enjoyment, the park is currently offering a Super Pass which includes admission for the rest of the 2010 season as well as the 2011 season.

Planet Snoopy will include 7 re-themed rides, and 7 additional new attractions.

This past year, Cedar Fair introduced a total of 5 Planet Snoopy areas in California’s Great America, Carowinds, Kings Dominion, Kings Island, and Canada’s Wonderland.  The concept art above shares many similarities with the versions that opened up this past season.  For example, the entrance in the concept art contians a snoopy statue with pillars featuring artwork in Snoopy’s alter egos.

If  this is anything like the areas that just opened, then it is sure to be a winner.

Gardaland and B&M have teamed up to announce a one of a kind attraction, called X-Raptor.  X-Raptor is Bolliger and Mabillard’s answer to Intamin’s Wing Rider.  The ride will put riders over the edge of the track suspending them over mid air.  Riders will be trying escape form a giant beast terrorizing the cities. Featuring a 2,500+ foot track, a climb just under 100 feet, 90 degree turns, and 2 inversions.

X-Raptor, Announced for Gardaland 2011, introduces a new style of coaster for Bolliger and Mabillard.

This is the first new style of ride since B&M introduced their flying coaster back in 2002 with Air and Superman’s Ultimate Flight.  The company appears to be pushing the envelope with this new coaster.   With a fairly a short maximum height, indicating that it may feature a launch.  This attraction does seem to share some similarities with Furius Baco and Port Aventura in Spain.  Both attractions feature low to the ground elements, barrel roll inveresions, and Wing Rider style trains.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and what will make this Bolliger and Mabillard’s creation differentiate from Intamin’s Wing Rider.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s first and only Ferrari themed complex, recently announce new details about the park and its exciting future. Currently under construction, this new park will allow guests to experience the Ferrari car world, in ways never before. The entire park is under a giant roof in the shape of the Ferrari logo providing for a nice temperature controlled experience.  The indoor theme park will feature more then 20 rides and attractions; Ferrari World has something for the entire family to enjoy. Opening on October 28, 2010, the park will truly be an incredible experience.

The signature attraction of the park will be Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest coaster. Shown in the concept art above, Formula Rossa takes a new approach to the record breaking coasters we are used to seeing. Instead of going for more height, the designers opted for more speed. After launching at a speed of 240 km/ph or 149 mph, the train will climb just 52 meters (170 feet), relatively small for a coaster of this speed. After cresting the hill, the Ferrari themed train continues through it’s winding, low to the ground course. Overall the layout seems reminiscent of Rita (Alton Towers) and Desert Race (Heide-Park).

One of the most spectacular parts of Formula Rossa will be it’s train. For a coaster to achieve such speeds, the body shape needed to be extremely aerodynamic. At the same time the designers wanted to resemble the body of a Formula 1 racing car. This posed challenges for engineers to create light weight trains, that can each hold 16 passengers, (4 cars, 4 passengers each). The solution are what you see above. The very stylish cars will be aerodynamic, however they will not solve the problem of the flying sand and other debris in the desert air. As a result, riders will be required to wear a pair of standard sky diving goggles.

Constructions presses on for Formula Rossa and the rest of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi to make sure that the park will be ready for its late October opening. Excitement is building as more and more details emerge. Keep checking back at Park Thoughts for more details.
