After lots of Teasing, Carowinds finally announced their addition for 2011: Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular. Featuring more than half a million LED lights, this new nighttime festival will extend from Country Fair to Planet Snoopy. The latest technology will be soon brought into the park for this sensory spectacular. To allow as many people as possible to enjoy Snoopy’ Starlight Spectacular, the park plan’s on expanding hours to 10 pm from June 27th, to August 7th 2011. Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular will illuminate on these nights. The addition is reminiscient of what has been added the past two years at several Cedar Fair parks such as Cedar Point, Worlds of Fun, and Knott’s Berry Farm. In fact, this particular Carowinds version will share the exact same name as Knott’s recently added version. I got a chance to experience the show at Knott’s and the overall area was just plain fun. The music was retro but with some funk, and the lighting was most certainly impressive with all sorts of lights, 3D objects, and characters that made it a real treat for guests of all ages. You can check out a full review of Knott’s Berry Farm’s version of Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular here. Expect this to be a popular addition to Carowinds for the 2011 season.
Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular at Knott's Berry Farm
A few days ago, we showed you California’s Great America’s newly rethemed Planet Snoopy, but another opened last weekend as well, at Carowinds. Since this isn’t the big addition for Carowinds with Intimidator, the park’s new B&M hyper coaster, also debuting this year, Planet Snoopy has kind of fallen into its shadows, literally. The first thing you notice when standing in Planet Snoopy is the huge, 232 foot tall mega coaster that now surrounds you, it really provides a nice backdrop for the beautiful children’s area.
Like at California’s Great America, every ride was renamed and rethemed from the former Nickelodeon characters, with most getting a fresh coat of paint. The whole area looks and feels brand new, with no true additions to the area, truly an amazing accomplishment by Cedar Fair and the park.
Now for some photos:
The new paint job for Flying Ace Aerial Chase really livens up the area.
All of the rides feature great Peanuts inspired details, this one on Snoopy vs. Red Baron.
The new look for “Woodstock Gliders” is widely preferred over the previous Danny Phantom theme.
Intimidator towering over a newly repainted “Lucy’s Crabbie Cabbie”
And we’ll end this update with a panorama of one side of Planet Snoopy (Click to enlarge):

Planet Snoopy has been announced as the replacement for all of the Nickelodeon Central and Hannah Barbara’s Kidzville areas in the former Paramount Parks. These new Snoopy-fied areas are all currently in the construction phase and each ne is set to open in time for the 2010 opening day.
Cedar Fair recently launched a new Planet Snoopy website for each of their four new locations in California’s Great America, King’s Island, King’s Dominion and Carowinds. Each website comes with a video, a link to the parks home page, operating schedule, and a park map. Below is one of the park maps from California’s Great America.
The park maps are not the updated versions sadly but they do indicate the park entrance (what every theme park enthusiast needs to know) as well as the location of the up and coming area. Check out the website here. Be sure to leave your Park Thoughts on Planet Snoopy below.
Carowinds surprised fans today by releasing a full list of rides names for the Nickelodeon Central retheme to Planet Snoopy, becoming the first of the five Paramount/Cedar Fair Park’s to do so. Here’s the rundown of all of the renames announced:
I was able to make a quick stop by Carowinds today to check out the progress on Intimidator. Unfortunately I wan’t able to find time to go inside the park, but I did get a few photos from right outside.
