Tis the season of horror as several theme parks have had some terrifying news lately.  And 2010 is already starting to feature some scary attractions.  Thorpe Park is opening a new year round horror house called Saw: Alive and Knott’s Scary Farm has already released information on their Halloween event.

In 2009, Thorpe Park unleased, Saw: the Ride.  But now they will continue the horror movie theme with a new haunted house opening this Spring that will run year round.  Thorpe Park’s Twitter just posted some great construction photos of how the new attraction is coming along.  The park transformed one of its lake side buildings into one of Jigsaw’s lairs.  Now guests will voyage inside these walls that are haunted with razor sharp blades, blood covered rooms, and other contraptions that will torture it’s victims.  This seems like a great move by the park because it is fairly low cost compared to a big ride, but it will surely be a very popular walk-through with guests.  Saw: Alive is expected to open up along with the rest of the park in Spring of 2010, if you go in, I hope you come out alive!

Knott’s Berry Farm also revealed, via Twitter, that a new scare zone is in the works for Knott’s Scary Farm 8 months away.  Replacing the Gauntlet, will be a highly themed area tentatively titled “Victorian Steampunk Vampires”.  A very interesting combination.  Well my thoughts are that if pulled off correctly, it could be great.  Victorian and Steampunk are two wonderfully creepy areas, but Vampires could make this a bit random.  I can’t wait to see the outfits.

So are these two announcements good news for you horror lovers?  Leave a comment with your park thought below!

Alton Tower’s has finally released more information about their Secret Weapon 6 (SW6) project and it really shows how fun and unique this ride is going to be

First off, the biggest news is that “Thirteen” has been announced as the ride’s name. In my opinion doesn’t sound like a roller coaster name, but it’s certainly better than the rumored “Surrender” name.

Lot’s of information about the ride’s mysterious themeing was also reveled. The ride is clearly based around different fears and bad luck, from the name to the fact that the ride is built on an old cemetery/crypt. According to the park, the ride will be the first roller coaster to combine both physical and psychological fear.

The main piece of the ride’s themeing, a giant 46 ft. (14 m) tree trunk that will be placed on the wall of the ride’s building, has arrived. An interesting fact, the tree trunk was partially made of steel from Corkscrew, the roller coaster that used to occupy Thirteen’s site. This is a very creative way to keep a little bit of a lost ride in the park, hopefully they’ll somehow note this interesting fact around the piece so that all of that extra effort doesn’t go to waste.

Another note, the unique Intamin ride type being used for Thirteen has now been named a ‘psychoaster,’ obviously based on the fact that the ride will have features that produce psychological fear.

Wild Asia

Chessington’s World of Adventure announced the replacement for the beloved, Benoland, Wild Asia.  Opening in March of 2010, this new area is one of the most ambitious projects in the park’s history.  Surrounding the area will be lavish landscaping and scenery that will immerse you into the jungles of Asia.

Featuring a number of attractions, Wild Asia will be a thrilling adventure for the whole family.  A heavily themed Chair-Swing attractions loom beneath the thick bamboo forest and the ruins of a lost temple hide a Giant Disco attraction.  But the fun does not stop there and it continues into the wildlife with the addition of exotic bird enclosures and other walk through experiences.
