Yet often times, what the experts consider a good “coaster” is very different than the enthusiasts community, the general population, etc.

You can even break the enthusiasts community into factions. Disney aficionados, including yourself and I, are going to rate something like Expedition Everest very highly because what we consider a good ride is going to be very different than what say a hard core “roller coaster fanatic” will prefer.

My point being, every awards system is in essence “inaccurate” unless you somehow quantify and remove the subjectivity out of it. Not to say that I think Mitch Hawker’s Coaster Poll and Golden Ticket Awards are good (I actually feel they are both completely inaccurate), just I don’t agree with the reasons you presented.

This is precisely why I will not participate in these types of polls. Since I haven’t ridden every coaster out there, how can I legitimately say that one is better than the other? Even if I had, everyone’s opinions are different, so there is no right or wrong on what is the best. I’ll only participate in polls where I have been on every nominated ride, like my favorite for a particular park. Even then, it’s just my opinion. These larger polls are nothing but popularity contests. However, I do like using them as a wish list of sorts of the various coasters that I need to make an effort to ride someday.
