Recently, the big announcement came about the purchasing of the major theme park chain, Worlds of Discovery. Worlds of Discovery, also known as Busch Entertainment Company, are the owners of 10 theme parks. Included in these theme parks are the Busch Gardens and Sea World chains. Since the parent company, Busch, was bought out a few years ago, it has been no news that the new owners, InBev, would sell off the theme parks.
This week, the Blackstone Group announced that they will be acquiring the theme parks for some where between $2.3-$2.7 billion. The massive purchase includes all the theme parks, water parks, and other experiences the Busch Entertain Company has to offer. Blackstone is no stranger to theme parks as they are part owners of Universal Studios Resort Florida, and are the owners of Merlin Entertainment. Merlin runs many theme parks across the globe including the Legoland chains.
I have to say that I am pleased with the purchase. Blackstone seems like an excellent company to now run the world class theme parks. If they can maintain the World of Discovery Parks like they do with the Universal Florida parks, I will be very pleased. Plus, the company has already got a great start by launching a new official blog. What do you think of the purchase? Like it? Hate it? Leave your comments and park thoughts.
