Great America

November 1st, 2009 meant the final day for California’s Great America’s 2009 season and Park Thoughts was there to say farewell to the park, and more importantly the wonderful Nickelodeon characters that would be leaving the park forever.

The World's Great Backyard Circus

Planet Snoopy will take over both the Kidsville and Nickelodeon Central areas of the park.  Kidsville’s main show, The Backyard Circus, would also be having it’s final showing today so I decided to check it out.

Final Day of Backyard Circus

The show consists of three actual performers, then dozens of cast members selected from the audience.  The selected cast members get to dress up and be part of the world’s greatest Backyard Circus.  While the show is certainly no showstopper, it is a cute and entertaining show where children get to be a part of making it very popular.

Runaway Taxi

A coaster just for the kids, Taxi Jam, will most likely be re-painted and re-themed next year to be incorporated as part of the Planet Snoopy area.

Kidsville

One of the great things about the Kidsville area is that it showcases many characters that have been off the air for decades now.   All of the characters in the area are older then children who ride these rides.

CGA's Closing Day

While Kidsville be made for young children, it is also a place for parent’s and adults to relive their childhood memories with some of their favorite Saturday morning cartoons.

CGA's Closing Day

Across the midway in Nickelodeon Central fans are saying goodbye to their beloved Nick Toons characters.

CGA's Closing Day

Dora was delighting guests on her last day at Great America.

CGA's Closing Day

The Dora Live Stage Show was also celebrating it’s final day at Great America.  It is probably one of California’s Great America’s most popular shows behind Meet the Nicktoons.

CGA's Closing Day

Back over in the rest of the park, Invertigo continues to sit dormant after it’s accident this past summer that left a full train load of riders stranded.  Now the only thing that lies here is the track.  The cars have been removed and minimal work appeared to be happening on the attraction with only a ladder in the station marking any sign of construction.

CGA's Final Day of 2009

Vortex had absolutely no line at all during my visit.  The row that was not available was the front row with all the other rows being totally open.

CGA's Closing Day

The Halloween Decorations were still up since it was only one night after the final Halloween Haunt.  It is very interesting to take the time to soak in the atmosphere of the Halloween decorations when you aren’t being chased by a evil zombie!

CGA's Closing Day

Speaking of Halloween, the day allows for a great look at the terrific marquee for the new for 2009 Toy Factory maze.  Toy Factory is what I would call the most creative maze in the entire park.

CGA's Closing Day

Flight Deck was running great on it’s final day of 2009.  Plenty of force and lots of fun.

CGA's Closing Day

Great America’s near by lake provides for a terrific sensation of the helix of Flight Deck’s finale.

CGA's Closing Day

The day ended with the final Meet the Nicktoons.  Thanks for reading!  Leave a comment and park thought below.

Yesterday was the final day of California’s Great America’s 2009 season, but more importantly was the last day for the Nickelodeon characters being part of the park’s family.  It was decide that all of the former Paramount Park’s would lose their Nickelodeon Central and Kidzville areas for Planet Snoopy in 2010.  That meant that today was the final show of the park’s extravagant Meet the Nicktoons show.  I was there to cheer on the performers one last time!

The audience was excited for the show!

The show started at 5:00 but by 4:15 people were lining up to meet their favorite Nickelodeon characters one last time.  Several never had seen the show before but a good majority of the audience either worked at the park, or was family/friends of the performers  in the show.  Either way it was great to see such a turn out for a show like this.

Let the show begin!

When the show starts, the characters and performers begin parading out of the backstage parade gate and head around the famed Country Swings and onto the main stage area!  The performers are armed with whistles and streamers as they dance to the blasting music stirring up some fun.

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Here are your characters of Meet the Nicktoons 2009! The colorful cast gather in Celebration Plaza and create one of the most high energy shows of all time.  Everyone is clapping and dancing along because the excitement is just pulsing!

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Diego comes out and tells everyone that they need to help!  His Nickelodeon friends sure are wanting to help and want you to join in!

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Diego and his amigos break out into song about the value of friendship and helping and you are invited to sing along.

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Who said team work cannot be fun?  Sure looks like they are having plenty of fun dancing to me.

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Then the performers begin to circle the setting and get every one to make the noise of their favorite animal.

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

After Diego, it is Dora’s turn to pump up the action.  She encourages everyone to dance along!

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

The performers did a truly amazing job of keeping the energy extremely high the entire show.  Not once did I think to myself ‘When will this show end!?’

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Dora continues her Fiesta!

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Its Spongebob’s turn and he has a very special announcement to make….

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Spongebob is employee of the month!

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

Spongebob’s final ‘Ta-Da!’

The Final Performance of 'Meet the Nicktoons'

The finale is a hi octane dance marathon where all the characters gather around to do one final blow out before guests come and meet out.  Don’t forget streamers for a spectacular finale.

‘Meet the Nicktoons’ is a superb show that attracks a huge audience.  It is very sad to see these characters leave because they bring a certain vibrance to the park that Snoopy characters simply cannot do.  Their energy, their friendliness will all be missed.  I would like to thank the performers for putting on such a spectacular show for so long!  This closes the chapter on another great era.
